90% have no knowlege of how to operate simplex .

Public service operation by these fools, whether upgraded or not , is the #1 reason given for their radio existance. This includes, weather nets, the every Tuesday play nets and   ARES / RACES or other politically motivated calling cards.

86% of hams licensed for 20 years or more are offended by the language used by the newbies.

100% of the newbies think they know all about ham radio and don't seem to care that they don't.

Burned out. To much politics. Total chaos from multiple layers of idiots. I thought I was a lone ranger when it came to those feelings. I have come to the conclusion that if you are a member of a club, then you are doomed. I have had good club experiences, but I have had more bad club experiences. RACES, ARES and all those go through some local club, and that means putting up with a couple of schmoes that think they are God's gift to ham radio and know everything. They some how get into power and everyone has to dance to their tune when they are obvioulsy wrong...wrong...wrong. They will turn down the advice of a ham who has been in the hobby for 25 years....and do something really stupid like send off color emails to people that don't share their complete disrespect for tradition. I have chased my share of tornadoes, worked at handling traffic for an earthquake, and organized spotting teams. But I will not do biking events, festivals, and the such. Not and emergency to me. It's free commercial labor But, it is not worth the politics, hassles, bad feelings, et al. If you need me...call me. I know how to operate...I know how to think. If you need my help ... call. But I will not get involved with the political games. You really know how bad things can get when a new ham criticizes oldtimers for not giving back to the hobby anymore. Wonder why we don't ?
